NASA Camera Takes The Best Obama Inauguration Photo

by Aaron Street on January 27, 2009

OK, I admit I’ve been somewhat obsessed with NASA technologies lately.

But, seriously, click on the photo below.  It’s an interactive, panoramic photo of President Obama’s inauguration.  The picture was taken with a 1,400 megapixel robotic camera, originally developed for NASA’s Mars rovers. The photo site allows you to zoom in to any part of the crowd to see perfect resolution up-close pictures of any individual person.

I found my sister way up in the stands, but couldn’t find myself on the mall. There’s an odd merging error where it looks like Aretha Franklin is wearing Rick Warren’s beard….it’s a few rows behind Obama.

Dan (and everyone else),

Here’s a link to a different interface for the photo that allows you to “snapshot” people that you find: http://gigapan.org/viewGigapan.php?id=15374
